Herm Sprenger Collar
If you own a large breed dog, then you know power. No matter how much floof your pup appears to have, when they make the decision to chase another dog/squirrel/leaf, it can be jarring.
Regular collars stopped working for Bruno and Beau by the time they were 4-5 months old. I think most owners get their males neutered early on.
Neutering and obedience training early may avoid bad leash behavior. Most large breed owners do not neuter their pups before 1.5-2 years old in order to assist the development of their joints as their body continues to grow. This can make for some wild adventures on walks. Bruno and Beau are both >160 pounds each now. When they were around 100-120 pounds they could easily drag a 200 pound human for a couple blocks.. not that anyone in my family has ever experienced that..
This collar changed everything. It greatly reduces their maximum pull force. It is also a great way to introduce focus on walks. You may have noticed that when your pup becomes hyper focused on something it is almost as if they can’t hear.
The Herm Sprenger collar is great way to break their focus, introduce a command and continue training/walking. The collar size can easily be adjust by adding or removing links. They are put on, and removed, by inter-locking links. It may be more cumbersome than an easy snap, but the strength it provides is unparalleled. The reduced pull strength and ability to redirect make the thought of going on a walk much more pleasant.
